19, 2007 Dear Uzor, RE: FOURTH AFRICAN
AMBASSADORS AND DIASPORA FORUM Thank you for your letter informing me of preparations to hold the fourth African Ambassadors Forum and the Diaspora Investment Conference in London, September 17 – 19 2007. I note with satisfaction the collaboration of African Business Roundtable in organizing this event since the second edition, and the impact of these events on mobilizing all stakeholders for engagement in the sustainable development of our dear Continent. It is quite interesting and appropriate that this year’s edition will involve and engage the Africa Diaspora. This will provide the much-needed synergy required for economic diplomacy and harnessing available resources, skills and expertise for rebuilding our respective country’s economies and the overall well being of the Continent’s peoples. I wish to assure you of African Business Roundtable (ABR’s) collaboration once again to ensure a successful event in line with your request. Yours sincerely, African Business

Mr. Uzo Owunne
Thank you for your kind invitation to participate in the 4th African Ambassadors Interactive Forum in London. One of the focus areas of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) aims to promote the business contribution to development in lower-income countries. We feel that there is a strong case for business to increase its efforts in creating sustainable livelihoods in these countries, both from a risk and opportunity perspective. Poverty remains one of the biggest challenges to sustainable development, and business cannot succeed in societies that fail. At the same time, developing countries represent important growth markets for business in the 21st century. Since 2001, the WBCSD has been working with its members and partner organizations on identifying innovative business models that are both profitable and contribute to the socio-economic improvements in developing countries. An important learning has been that these business models require partnering across sectors and with public and civil society organizations. We therefore feel your Forum is a very timely and needed platform for dialogue and cooperation between the various social actors. We wish you a successful gathering and look forward to learning about the outcomes of your deliberations in view of exploring cooperation opportunities to accelerate growth and development in Africa.
