only policy holds for the awards dinner.
Background
This award is been introduced to acknowledge,
celebrate and reward the efforts of deserving Africans. The recipients
for the award will hopefully become role models for and inspire
Africans from all walks of life, enhance the voluntary sector
and encourage philanthropy.
The award will raise awareness outside the African
community of the outstanding achievements of hitherto unknown
men and women who have served Africa in the drive towards sustainable
development and poverty eradication.
The award will also recognise people who despite
the odds have excelled in people centred initiatives, reforms
and advocacy.
Sectors
Recipients will be nominated from the following:
Diplomatic service
Education
Business
Technology
Humanitarian
Communications
Medical
Community
Civil Service
Aims of the Award?
The overall aim of this award is to encourage
and inspire African philanthropy and leadership.
• It will help in cultivating charitable impulse among the
thousands of African businesses and businesspersons who although
giving charitably does not do so in an organised and effective
way so as to be sustainable.
• This award will in the long term create a new class of
African philanthropists and leaders giving systematically to reach
a wider recipient group and in so doing over the long term reverse
the stereotypical view of Africans chronically receiving and expecting
western aid.
Criteria:
The Award is open to any of the following:
1. African or people of African descent living
in Africa or in the Diaspora.
2. Industrious and Credible
3. With a track record of giving to charity, particularly in the
area of development
4. Known to excel in people centred initiatives, reforms and advocacy.
Networking for Leadership in Development?
A new body will be formed for the recipients of this award, to
be named The Forum of African leadership
and Service for the Advancement of African Development.
